Should I buy 1 week or 2 week JR pass?

I was looking at your itinerary and my recommendation would be to use a 14 day JR Pass for your travel around Japan. You will be traveling long distances (especially to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima) and a 14 day JR Pass will work very well here.

The 31st may just be the busiest day of the year! Be sure to get your tickets the moment that you arrive in Japan.

Would it be worth buying the first class ticket as we will be travelling during very busy periods? (To have a better chance of being able to book seats)

Would it be a good idea to buy 7 days regular JR pass and the following 7days First class JR pass? Is that possible?!
