Hi.
We are travelling as a group of 6. Our longest single trip is from Tokyo to Hiroshima and we are under time constraints.
I wanted to upgrade to the Nozomi for this journey but are wondering if that will make the JR Pass (7day) uneconomical. We will be going from Tokyo- Hiroshima-Naoshima- Kyoto- Tokyo with possible side trips to Nara and Osaka. I would also like to upgrade to Green Class for just this journey. Is this possible? I haven't been able to find anything online apart from the extra set fee for using the same style ticket on the faster train. Thank you!

Can you upgrade to a Green Pass for just the Nozomi portion of your travel?

Hi there,
If you upgrade for this journey for a Nozomi service and plan on purchasing a regular JR Pass, then your Nozomi seats will be in the regular carriages. If you want to travel Green Class for this journey, you will either have to have purchased an upgraded Green Class JR Pass and then upgrade from there, or just purchase a Nozomi ticket separately. Unfortunately you cannot pay the difference for a Nozomi Green car upgrade.

Thanks you. I have tried various calculators and they give me different answers to whether or not the JR pass is worth it. We are going Tokyo-Hiroshima- Naoshima-Kyoto -.Tokyo within the 7 days .I understand the JR pass can get us to Naoshima (Ferry excluded). The calculators don't include travelling within cities using JR lines, Is this the difference between worth it and not worth it? Also If you have a green pass does this make any difference on Non-Shinkansen Trains? or is all the seating the same Thanks!
