Hi all,

First of all, welcome to the JRPass.com official forum. For over 15-years now, we have been providing free travel advice to anyone going to Japan. Whether you are looking for advice on the Japan Rail Pass, itinerary checks or travel in general. We're here to help!

To keep things neat and tidy, we do ask to follow the following rules and requests:

  • Please use search first before posting, many questions have been asked over a dozen times before and this way you can find the answer much faster.
  • Remember that this is a public forum, so avoid posting any personal information (like full name, e-mail, order details etc).
  • We're unable to help directly here with order related questions, think of shipping updates and requesting changes or refunds. Please contact The JR Pass support team.
  • Commercial advertising is prohibited, this includes adding links and similar.
  • For first time posters, we will need to approve your first post before it becomes visible. Most are approved within 24 hours, this is normal so please be patient. We've had to take this measure to avoid spam.
  • If you're trying to find out whether a JRPass is beneficial, please include as many possible details as possible. Like cities and the amount of days you wish to spend in each place.

Please note that posts not following the above rules, may be removed without any further notification.

Here is a list of other useful resources we provide for free:

Thank you for being part of the JRPass.com community and we look forward to engaging with you about everything Japan.

Is it required to do a booking or do I just have to go to the JRPass platform and take a non reserve seat?

Seat reservations for most trains are not required, but can be nice to be secure of seating.

Some trains, like the Narita Express and Hayabusa Shinkansen are all reserved seats.

Kind regards,
Daniel
