Hello,

My name is Pedro

I have been saving and this is the year I'm going to Japan! August (14 - 27)

Here's the classic question :) :

7 or 14 day rail pass?

I´m planning to visit the following places (Note: This itinerary is provisional):

Arriving Japan (Haneda airport ) on 14th August
15 - Tokyo
16 - Tokyo
17 - Nikko
18 - Tokyo/Kamakura
19 - Kawaguchi - Ko (Fuji-Q)
20 - Kyoto
21 - Kyoto
22 - Kyoto
23 - Nara
24 - Kinosaki
25 - Kinosaki/Osaka
26 - Osaka/Tokyo
27 - Sayonara

Question 2: Any suggestions on improving this itinerary?

I´m thinking of Minakami, Kusatsu, Hakone and Mont Koya...

Queston 3: Onsen in August...Do you think it´s crazy? :)

I appreciate the patience

Thanks

Pedro

Hello Pedro!

That's going to be an amazing first trip to Japan! Right now I would probably stick to a 7 day JR Pass for Tokyo - Kyoto - Kinosaki - Osaka - Tokyo. This way you make the best savings. Local travel within Tokyo and to Nikko, Fuji and Kamakura does not have to be expensive. Have a look at the JR Kanto Pass it would make a great supplement to your 7 day JR Pass and you could use it for your day trips from Tokyo.

Going to your 2nd question, I think that your itinerary already is very nice. Adding much more would only make you lose time to enjoy the other places.

3.) Onsen are great year round! So no not crazy at all! Be sure though to familiarize yourself with Onsen Etiquettes before going in. I remember the first time when I visited an Onsen in Beppu with a friend and we jumped in right away. Not only did we make all the other bath guests scramble out, it was also very embarrassing when we learned afterwards that you should clean and scrub yourself carefully before jumping in.

Does this help?
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

Hello Daniel

Thanks for the quick response.

It was more or less what I had in mind, confirmed by an expert.

the way that I'll save a few euros... :)

I also thank the comments on the itinerary and onsen etiquette.

I will analyze the JR Kanto Pass option.

Thanks again
