Please advise if I should get the JR Pass

A JR Pass would certainly be useful for your travel. Below is a small list of ticket prices without the JRPass to give you an idea of possible savings.

Tokyo - Nagano ¥ 8,400
Nagano - Tokyo ¥ 8,400
Tokyo - Takayama ¥ 15,010
(Shirakawago by bus) Takayama - Kyoto ¥ 10,260

For a total of ¥ 42,070 or ¥ 13,770 in savings as the 7 day JR Pass is 29,110. Remember that the JR Pass is also good for local travel in Tokyo, adding even more to your savings.

Yes I don't see any problem and it looks like a fun trip!

Do note that you may have to pay for additional transport if there are no JR lines (such as the bus to Shirakawago).
